Every year, I write a Christmas story, merry and magical stories that take Christmas seriously (or as seriously as it should be taken, which is both not at all and entirely too much). 24 episodes of a new story every December - an audiobook advent calendar.
There are already many different stories. There’s the unlikely steampunk Adventure Calendar of Mr Timothy Hope, the story of the little girl Lydia, her family and friends and the Apartment Store, the madcap murder mystery of The Deadvent Calendar and the report of an harassed government wizard on An All Too Magical Christmas.
I usually release the stories as podcasts - you can subscribe through Apple podcasts or Spotify to get a new episode everyday through Christmas, or sponsor us on Patreon to get the whole story as an audiobook. You can find out more at christmasstories.co.uk
I'm now going to start releasing them as newsletters too - subscribe for free to get an email everyday for the first 24 days of December. I'll also be adding the podcast episodes into the emails too.
This year's story is set in the same town as a previous story: The Apartment Store, so we're going to start by releasing that through November.
The Apartment Store is the story of Lydia, a little girl who lives in a ramshackle attic apartment, in a ramshackle apartment building, down the ramshackle end of town. All Lydia wants is a proper Christmas, but it doesn't seem likely until a new tenant arrives in their building and changes Christmas for everyone in it.
The Apartment Store is a book length Christmas story of twelve chapters, split into twenty four episodes for Advent, so it'll start from the 7th of November and then run until the 30th.
Then, from the 1st of December, we'll start serialising this year's Christmas story: The Elf Service.
Not long to go now!
P.S. As a little teaser, here's a peek at the artwork for this year's story, illustrated, as ever, by the awesome Jamie Lenman:
